6 Day Trek Discover the Volcanic Splendor of Jebel Sirwa 

After a hearty breakfast, you’ll embark on a captivating 7-hour hike. The journey takes you across the Oued n’Aït Ouissadene, offering glimpses of remote Berber villages along the way. As you reach the village of Tamazzirt, you’ll follow a winding piste that leads you to the Imghi Heights. The afternoon will be spent hiking along the almost-flat piste, surrounded by awe-inspiring landscapes, until you reach the Berber hamlet of Aït Tizouâd (2030m). Here, you’ll have the opportunity to engage with the local community and experience their traditional way of life. Overnight accommodation will be provided either in comfortable tents or in the welcoming homes of Berber families.

Today’s adventure takes you on a 7-hour hike through a varied terrain of craters and volcanic plugs. As you ascend and descend the stark Tizi (2300m), you’ll be mesmerized by the rugged beauty of the surroundings. The trail will lead you to the Oued Iriri, where you’ll witness the power and serenity of nature. In the afternoon, you’ll continue hiking towards the west, traversing a chaotic landscape of black rock until you reach the village of Asrir n’Tassirouät. Amidst this volcanic moonscape, your camp will be set up, providing a unique and unforgettable camping experience beneath the starry desert sky.

Today’s highlight is an exhilarating hike to the summit of Jbel Sirwa (3304m), an extinct volcanic twin-peak. Setting off on a 2-3 hour trek, you’ll navigate rocky paths and scramble up the final meters to reach the summit. The reward is a panoramic view that stretches across the High and Anti Atlas ranges, revealing dramatic gorges, vast plains, and neighboring peaks. After taking in the breathtaking vistas, you’ll descend to Âazib n’Iriri (2340m), where your muleteers and mules await. From there, you’ll hike through a surreal landscape of black rocks, stones, and pebbles until you arrive at the remote village of Ammassine (2000m). Take a stroll through the village, marveling at its intriguing storage places for wheat and hay. You’ll camp for the night at Âazib n’Iriri, surrounded by the tranquility of the desert.

Today’s trek takes you on an 8-hour journey, descending to the Oued Tachakoucht. As you follow a winding piste through groves of almond, olive, and orange trees, you’ll be captivated by the vibrant colors and scents of the landscape. Continuing your hike, you’ll witness sudden fields of corn and traverse a stony piste, skirting the hamlet of Tamazzirt, until you arrive once again in Tamlakhout. This market town, with its terraced fields and saffron crocus gardens, offers a picturesque setting to conclude your trek. As evening descends, immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere created by the merry band of muleteers.

As your memorable trek comes to an end, you’ll bid farewell to Tamlakhout and rejoin your vehicle for the journey back to the north. Pass over the majestic Tizi n’Tichka, the highest mountain pass in Morocco, and take a short stop in Taddert en route.
