town serves as the starting point for treks in the Atlas Mountains. Meet the mule team, load up the gear, and begin your trek. Ascend to the Tizi n’Tamatert Pass (2,279 m/7,477′) and then descend to the charming Ouaneskra village. After a 30-minute hike, reach Tacheddirt (2,300 m/7,546′) where you will camp by the river. The trek from Imlil to Tacheddirt covers approximately 11 km and takes around 5-6 hours.
Leave Tacheddirt and cross the valley as you embark on a gradual climb to the Tizi Likemt Pass (3,555 m/11,663′). This trail presents a challenge with loose scree covering the ground. From the pass, enjoy breathtaking views of the Toubkal massif. Descend to Azib Likemt village and set up camp. Today’s trek covers approximately 11 km and takes 6-7 hours.
Embark on a long but not strenuous hike, showcasing the diverse landscapes of the region. Reach the Tizi n’Ououraine Pass (3,120 m/10,236′) and be rewarded with magnificent vistas of the Toubkal massif, including Mount Toubkal and the Ifni Dome. Follow the trail to Amsouzert, a remarkable village where you will spend the night in an authentic local gite. The trek today covers approximately 15 km and takes 7 hours.
Depart from Amsouzert and head west, passing through small villages en route to Ifni Lake. This stunning lake is nestled amidst rugged mountains and surrounded by vast piles of rubble. It is the sole lake in the Toubkal massif and impressively deep. Arrive at Ifni Lake (2,295 m/7,530′) in time for lunch and spend a relaxing afternoon by the shores before camping nearby. Today’s trek covers approximately 9 km and takes 7 hours.
Prepare for the most challenging day of the trek. Ascend a steep trail that leads to a lengthy scree slope. Reach the Tizi n’Ouanoums Pass (3,664 m/12,021′), a narrow ledge passing between two rock formations. Descend along a zigzagging path to the Neltner Hut, located at the Toubkal Refuge. Spend the night at the mountain refuge or camp outside. Today’s trek covers approximately 13 km and takes 6-7 hours.
Embark on an early morning trek to the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167 m/13,671′), the highest peak in North Africa. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Atlas Mountains and the Marrakesh plains on a clear day. Descend to the base, passing through the villages of Sidi Chamharouch and Aremd. Follow the Mizane River through a beautiful forest until you reach Imlil. The trek concludes here, and transportation back to Marrakesh is provided. If desired, explore the lively Jemaa el-Fnaa central square and indulge in an unforgettable open-air meal. Today’s trek covers approximately 18 km and takes 9-10 hours.
