Fes to Marrakech 3-Day Desert Trip

Your adventure begins with an early departure from Fes, as we head toward the captivating dunes of Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. On our way, we’ll drive through Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland” for its European-style alpine architecture and cool climate. As we continue, we’ll enter the cedar forests of Azrou, where you’ll have the opportunity to spot playful wild monkeys in their natural habitat. Be sure to capture the stunning beauty of the Moroccan wilderness with your camera.

In the small Berber village of Zaida, we’ll stop for a delightful lunch, tasting authentic Moroccan cuisine. As we journey deeper into the Atlas Mountains, the landscapes become even more breathtaking, with majestic mountains and valleys unfolding around us. We’ll pass through the town of Medilt and reach Erfoud, where you’ll begin to feel the presence of the Saharan oasis of Tafilalet.

Upon arrival in Merzouga, we’ll take a moment to relax and prepare for an unforgettable camel ride. As you mount your camel and head into the desert, the golden dunes will surround you in a serene silence, providing the perfect backdrop for a stunning sunset. Afterward, we’ll spend the night in traditional Berber nomad tents, where you can relax, stargaze, and immerse yourself in the tranquility of the desert.

Wake up early to experience the awe-inspiring sunrise over the Sahara, as the sun casts golden hues across the dunes. After enjoying a traditional Moroccan breakfast and a refreshing shower, we bid farewell to Merzouga and head toward Rissani, a town with a deep historical significance as a former royal capital. We’ll then continue on to Erfoud, where you’ll learn about the region’s rich Berber culture.

Our journey then takes us through the breathtaking Todra Gorges, where towering cliffs rise up to 300 meters above a riverbed. The beauty of the gorges, combined with crystal-clear waters, creates a picture-perfect landscape. Continuing through the Dades Valley, we’ll make our way toward Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Morocco,” where you’ll be treated to stunning views of ancient Kasbahs and the fertile Skoura oasis.

In the evening, we’ll arrive in Ouarzazate, a city famous for its film studios and its role in many international movies, including Gladiator. You’ll have time to unwind, reflect on the day’s adventures, and enjoy a well-deserved rest.

On the final day of your desert adventure, we’ll begin our journey with a visit to Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most iconic Kasbahs in Morocco. This ancient fortified village has been the setting for numerous films and TV series, including Game of Thrones and Gladiator. Wander through the narrow streets and explore the fascinating architecture of this historical site.

From Ait Benhaddou, we’ll travel through the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the famous Tizi n’Tichka pass, situated at an elevation of 2260 meters. The panoramic views of valleys, deep gorges, and traditional Berber villages will leave you speechless. As we descend the mountains, we’ll head toward Marrakech, where your journey will conclude.
