After an early morning transfer and breakfast, we head to Azilal and then to the Col de Tizi n Oughbar. From there, you’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the entire mountain range, including Tizal-RAT-Azourki. We descend into the valley of Oued Lakhdar and finally reach the Ait Bougmez valley. Upon arrival, you’ll meet our team of carriers and cooks. After a tea break, we load the baggage and begin hiking up the Wadi Arous. We’ll camp near sheepfolds at Azib n’Ikkis, located at 2300m. Duration: 3 hours of walking / 450m vertical climb.
We gradually ascend to the Col de Tarkedit at 3400m, following comfortable mule trails. Before reaching the col, be sure to fill your water bottles at the final water source. Along the way, we’ll make a few stops to admire the magical view of the Mgoun chain and the summit of Mgoun at 4068m. We then descend briefly to the plateau of Tarkedit, where nomads often frequent. We’ll spend the night in tents at the campsite. Duration: 5.5 hours of walking / 1150m ascent and 500m descent.
We depart at 5 am to avoid walking in the heat of the day. This will be a long day with approximately 8 hours of walking. We begin the day with a relatively easy climb without technical difficulties, offering beautiful landscapes along an accessible trail. The ascent to M’Goun is optional, but for those who choose it, the reward is a panoramic view of the entire M’Goun Massif, its valleys, and distant landscapes such as the Drâa Valley and Dades. After a long descent, we’ll meet our carriers near the source and set up the bivouac. Duration: 8.5 hours, including 5 hours on the mule trail. 1170m ascent and 1470m descent.
Today will be a shorter day of exploration, starting around 8 am. The mule track will take us through the stunningly colorful massif (gray, red, green) and past fairy chimneys. Along the way, we’ll encounter fewer villages but more nomads who reside in caves or protected by cliffs, with their herds of goats, sheep, and camels. We’ll have lunch at the entrance of the Oulilimt Gorges (remember to bring your swimsuit). In the evening, we’ll camp near Tighremt’n Ait Ahmed at 2300m, which used to be a meeting place for nomadic caravans from the desert. It was where they sold their goods in the cities. It’s a great location for our bivouac. Duration: 5 hours of walking / 350m descent.
We start the day with a gradual climb towards the Ait Imi Col. Along the way, we’ll encounter nomads with their family herds. It’s advisable to carry enough water in the morning as there will be a camp at noon. From the col, you’ll enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, including Wawgoulzat (3760m), Tagafayt (3700m), Igoudamene (3600m), Azourki (3700m), and the marabout Sidi Moussa (3100m). Descending from the col, we’ll reach the famous Ait Imi source, where we’ll have lunch in the shade. As we continue through the village of Ait Imi, zigzagging through fields and groves of walnut trees, we’ll reunite with our carriers. We’ll spend the night in the region, and in the evening, you can enjoy a hot shower. For a group of ten people, there will be a special Méchoui evening. Duration: 6 hours of walking / 650m ascent and 1000m descent.
We depart at 8 am to return to Marrakech, following the same route. However, this time we’ll make a stop to visit the Ouzoud Cascades, which are the largest cascades in Morocco, standing at 110m high. We’ll take a short walk through the valley of olive trees and have the opportunity to see monkeys. In the afternoon, we’ll arrive in Marrakech, where you’ll have free time to explore the city.
