Itinerary

Day 1 – Marrakech – Imlil – Tacheddirt

After a delicious breakfast in Marrakech, we embark on our journey towards Imlil, a bustling market town and a popular starting point for trekkers. As we traverse the valleys, you’ll have the opportunity to observe the locals diligently working in their terraced fields and taking care of their animals. Upon arrival in Imlil, we meet our mule team and load our gear before setting off on foot. Our trek begins by following the picturesque valley towards Tacheddirt, approximately 8 kilometers from Imlil. The trail gradually ascends, leading us to the Tizi n’Tamatert pass (2,279m). Afterward, we descend to the charming village of Ouaneskra and continue for another half-hour to reach Tacheddirt (3,000m), where we will camp near the river.

Day 2 – Tacheddirt – Azib Likemt

We cross the valley and commence a challenging but rewarding ascent towards the Tizi Likemt pass (3,555m). The path consists of loose scree, requiring careful navigation. Upon reaching the pass, we are rewarded with breathtaking views of the majestic Toubkal massif. We then descend through a long stretch to the village of Azib Likemt, where we will set up camp for the night.

Day 3 – Azib Likemt – Tizi n’Ourai – Amsouzert

Today’s trek involves diverse landscapes as we embark on a relatively easy but lengthy journey. From the Tizi n’Ououraine pass (3,120m), we are greeted with further panoramic vistas of Toubkal, including its summit, east face, and the impressive Ifni Dome (3,876m). Continuing along the trail, we make our way to Amsouzert, a captivating village known for its striking beauty. Tonight, we will stay in a simple village Gite, where we’ll experience dormitory-style accommodation.

Day 4 – Amsouzert – Ifni Lake

Our route takes us west of Amsouzert, allowing us to explore several small villages en route to Ifni Lake, the sole lake in the region. Nestled amidst rocky mountains and colossal rubble heaps, Ifni Lake presents a memorable sight. Its unusual depth adds to its allure. We will arrive at the lake by lunchtime, leaving us ample time to relax by the tranquil shore. This evening, we’ll set up camp in this captivating area.

Day 5 – Ifni Lake – Nelter Hut

Having acclimatized and built up our fitness, we’re now prepared to conquer the most challenging day of the trek. Embarking on a steep path, we ascend an seemingly endless scree slope. Finally, we reach the Tizi n’Ouanoums pass (3,664m), a narrow ledge nestled between two mighty rock formations. From this vantage point, we begin a zigzag descent towards Nelter Hut, a mountain refuge where we spend the night. Alternatively, we can choose to camp outside the hut.

Day 6 – Mt. Toubkal Summit – Imlil

Today, we rise before dawn to embark on the final ascent to the summit of Mt. Toubkal. Following a well-defined route, it typically takes around 2-3 hours to reach the summit. Once there, we are rewarded with awe-inspiring panoramic views of the entire Atlas mountain range and the plains of Marrakech beyond. After savoring this incredible experience, we descend rapidly towards the villages of Sidi Chamharouch and Aremd. Following the forested trail along the Mizane River, we make our way back to the trailhead in Imlil. If you are staying in Marrakech, transportation will be arranged to take you back to the city at the end of the day.
